From birth to age 3, your child’s brain is developing at lightning speed. Reading aloud each day boosts vocabulary, builds focus, sparks imagination, and gives your little one the security of your love and attention. Science shows it’s one of the single most powerful things parents can do to help their child thrive.

The Magic of bedtime stories

why reading to your child matters

Reading to your child—starting even in infancy—can become a cherished daily ritual that offers countless benefits for their development. In the cozy moments spent with a book, you are doing far more than just telling a story. Regular read-aloud time (especially at bedtime) significantly boosts your child’s brain development, language skills, and emotional well-being. Multiple studies have shown that children who are read to regularly have stronger vocabularies, better early literacy skills, and even measurably more active brains when processing stories. Perhaps most importantly, sharing stories creates a loving bond and lifelong positive attitude toward reading. Below we outline why reading to children is so critical for their growth and how you can make story time a beloved part of your family’s routine.

“The fire of literacy is created by the emotional sparks between a child, a book, and the person reading. It isn’t achieved by the book alone… nor by the adult who’s reading aloud — it’s the relationship winding between all three.”

About us

A smiling couple hugging outdoors in a forest with yellow and green autumn leaves.

Kyle and Tiffany Del Francia are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, ages four and one, and have built their home around faith, family, and the joy of shared reading. Both Kyle and Tiffany experienced challenges with reading and comprehension as children—Kyle was placed on a 504 plan for much of his schooling, and Tiffany also found reading difficult even though storytime was a meaningful part of her childhood.

For Kyle, everything began to change in fourth grade when a specialized tutor helped unlock the world of books, and nightly reading with his parents and siblings became a turning point that transformed his abilities. Tiffany’s parents emphasized reading as a family, and while she often struggled as a child, she grew to deeply value those moments. As she became a mother herself, she found her love for reading expanding, with a renewed appreciation for the lasting impact it can have on children.

Today, Kyle and Tiffany carry their experiences forward into their own home, creating a daily culture of stories, imagination, and connection. They’ve already seen the profound impact—watching their four-year-old’s abilities blossom and even their one-year-old eagerly engage with books. Their shared journey is a testament to the magic of reading: it doesn’t just change children, it changes families.

Together, Kyle and Tiffany believe that reading aloud is one of the greatest gifts parents can give their children—a simple daily act that builds brains, strengthens bonds, and creates memories to last a lifetime.
